A few day's short and a cold on top...

I am behind on the blog, but I have a real excuse... we finally moved into our home! What better way to celebrate than a cold, right? NOT! But, it was a gift from someone, and we received it well in the evening's, in fact I only had a few hours of sleep with Regan on Wednesday night, then the same with Henry on Thursday night. I ended up breaking several 'rules' in the process... but then again, I had a real excuse :).

You should never let your baby sleep with you. When they are screaming and only want you next to them, and all you can think about is making them comfortable (and sleep for yourself) we broke this cardinal rule. Letting each of them sleep with us. For Regan, this was enough and she slept with us until the morning. Henry was another matter...

With twins, a strict schedule is needed. Well, Henry would not sleep, his poor little head hurt when I would try to lay him down. So, I decided to do what my parent's did when we were little and not feeling well. We had a sicky party! I turned on the TV (Boomerang!) put toys in a pack-n-play, and I laid next to him on the couch while he laid in his pack-n-play for a little while before I had to hold him again. I only had 2 or 3 hours of sleep, and eventually the frustration kicked in, but we made it through.

So, now that we are armed with tylenol and humidifiers, we are all battling this generous 'gift' of a cold.

We survived!

We survived our first family road trip from Centreville down to Newport News. I almost felt the need to pack Henry a do-rag, but decided that his orange thermal with green camouflage shorts would be better. I have to add in that the weather is amazing!

So far the kids have done pretty well, Regan woke up crying at approximately 2 am because she did not know where she was, so I let her sleep with me for the rest of the night. It is amazing how you don't budge when you know you are holding a precious gift like Regan.

They have used their pop-a-tot's already (a huge success), and they are down for a nap... I have not seen daddy for a while, so I wonder if he is upstairs snoozing with them.

I cannot wait to see my 'extended' family, aka the Millers, this afternoon, and our friends that are coming by to say 'Hi' and meet the kids. I am certain I will post more later on, but for now that is all. We are here, safe and sound, and ready for this mini vacation!

Ba Ba Black Sheep

So, I am making up for the missed day in posting twice today.

Why does it seem like everything is happening so fast with the kids now? I could literally post a new advancement daily now.

Regan said her first word today! I have been saying "mama" to her a lot, and I try to include "dada" in there. I guess you can't train them to do everything you want them to do because she decided to go with "baba." Now she gets excited and say's "bababababababa." Just a few days ago she was mobile, yesterday she sat up on her own, and today she is talking. I hope it all doesn't go as fast as this, otherwise she will be getting married in a few months LOL.

Sitting on Nicole

As I sit here listening to Tropical Storm Nicole hover overhead, bringing us desperately needed water, I am bummed that we are now officially stuck indoors all day long. Then again, this could be a lot of fun.

If you don't know yet, Regan has learned how to sit on her own! Yes, in two days she went from the low crawl to sitting up on her own. She will be pushing Henry in a stroller at their first birthday.

Getting back to the tropical storm, and being stuck indoors. I love rainy days; however, I do not like the tornado warning's that accompany tropical storms. The kids are getting ready for their morning nap, and I am going to work on homework, then I think I will then be playing with Grover and the Count for the rest of my day.... may be the best day of my week.

Time to baby proof...

Yes, that is accurate. At the young age of 6 months old, Regan is doing the "low crawl." Hopefully this will begin the period of my weight-loss plan... I figure running after two babies has got to burn something off this body! I am excited for the real crawl, and I am trying to get it on video... we will see how that pans out.

Random thought

Has anyone ever wondered what the president's e-mail address is? Seriously? I am certain he has a military/government e-mail account that is typically some .mil .gov or other account, but could it be as simple as a plain military e-mail? What about the president's personal e-mail? I wonder if it is something like michellesman10 at hotmail.com, or presidentaldude at yahoo. Just a thought...

Henry and the 'Lovey Lion'

Last night the kids woke up at 10:30 pm. Strange for them, but they were wide-eyed and bushy-tailed. Talking to each other (in baby gabble and short excited screams), and just goofing off. After trying to get them to lay down we decided to give them another bottle. While I was waiting, I watched and listened to them, it was so stinking cute. Well, Henry has a 'Lovey Lion' that he sleeps with (the alternate lovey is a dinosaur, but he had the lion that evening), and it is just a little lion head with a fabric body. Safe for babies to sleep with.

Then, I got a private puppet show! The head of the lion kept 'bobbing' up and down! Henry was making noises, as if to make the lion 'talk!' When Henry got bored with that, he then decided it was tummy time, and rolled over. Due to the lack of vocalizations from Henry, Regan started her 'singing,' and this made Henry curious. Then I sat there watching Henry's head bob up and down trying to find Regan!

Though I am tired today, it was totally worth it. We gave them another bottle, and half an hour later they were back asleep as if it had never happened. It's moment's like those I wish my video camera was right there next to me!

Progress report

So, in following a day of "first's" here is the first "progress report" on Henry and Regan.

We have come a long ways since the day's of their birth. Somehow I am just as tired as I was then... I guarantee that is because I now have to entertain and manage their schedules so carefully that I am actually getting the same amount of sleep.

As usual, Regan is about 2 weeks ahead of Henry in the fine motor skills development, and is right on target for their age. Henry... well, let's just say he likes to cuddle with mommy instead of trying to crawl away like his sister, and is on target for their adjusted age. Here is the major difference that I have noticed with them... Regan will impress you with her ability to pull, push, and stomp on any button, pull string, and any noise maker available. When you watch Henry with the same toy, he hits one button at a time, but if you watch him, he is analyzing the lights and sound, memorizing it. He is more tuned in on sounds and words than Regan is.

Regan is sitting on her own, yet is not able to put herself in a sitting position. Henry... he uses the bumbo still! I swear that I hear them saying, "Mommy!" when they are crying, and they are finally getting down to two naps a day.

Solid foods are going well, so we are right on track for Birthday Cake in 6 months!

Firsts

So, there has to be a first to everything, including this blog, so I thought it would be a great way to start this blog.

This year has been a year of "first's" for us:

First time parents
First time parents to TWINS
First time being a civilian after 8.5 years of AF Service
First time stay-at-home mom

Amongst others, but that seems to be the biggies.

So, this blog is for friends and family that are not near us. This will help keep them up-to-date on current event's in our new "first" life, and will hopefully let them feel closer, even when the miles say different!
